In this video, I reveal a major foundation crack during an inspection of a house that was built in the nineties. This is more than just a settlement crack. The foundation has heaved and pulled away, and is visible in the brick veneer and foundation wall across the entire house. It doesn’t look like anything is wrong because of brick ties holding everything together, but over time the problem is going to get worse and worse, particularly every winter. There needs to be a repair here, and not just with the bricks cracking. The problem most likely lies within the foundation.
This has probably happened in the recent years when there winters have been extreme and frost lines have gone deeper than usual.
Always be on the look out for cracks like this – they could be a much bigger problem the longer you wait to have it repaired!
